the Friday scramble ...

BJM will likely win today's stage of the Gila. This is my favorite day of that deathmarch of a race. It has one of the more vicious descents in America ... one that always claims a few for the ambulances. I remember the year Bart Bowen launched it into a rockpile. Then there was when Bostick had a pair of rear pads fuse solid with his carbonium rims, sending him to the pavement faster than a coked up Tyson ... breaking his femur in two and splitting his nutsack for good measure.

le ouch.

After the descent, it's a rolley-polley affair through never ending valleys, big winds, and meaty-ringed attacks back into Fort Bayard for a strung out, strong man sprint. Moninger always does well in it ... but, i think this year BJM will come around everyone and win by 2 or 3 seconds.

BUT, what that boy should be doing (in my hummel opinion), is training solely, full-steam and with no distractions, for the US Time Trial champyships.

... and then Worlds.

He's got the juice for it.

Do we care that GOP candidates hate science?

and i don't even want to talk about the "i love Reagan more than you do"-itis going on in that party right now.

ok ... i'll just say it.

if you're a Republican ...

you're an idiot.

Speaking of hummels ~

Swanton TT was last nite ~

and after getting a bucketload of sass and shittalk from daGill, we went out and burned the privates off over that fun little course. the skies looked all pregnant-like ... but the rain stayed mostly put for all the riders. little spritzels in the face don't distract too much except when you're tryin to negotiate a maddash descent with shit brakes and aeroboogie wheels.

last nite i tried the front tripoof and the rear disky. the winds didn't cause me much worry, but man ... handling down that descent was just crap. i don't know what was squealing louder, those brakes i was deathclutching or my piehole as i tried to lose myself in each corner. but ... if i'm going up Hood River way, i don't want to embarass myself too much with a weak-ass TT ~ so, had to get the work in.

I used the Madera TT to get a better gauge on how to tweak my position on the bike. Basically, at Madera ... i sucked. ergo, some shit had to change. And so, a few adjustments were made while spinning around the minutes before last nite's effort. i reckon the changes seemed to leave me happy enough after - no numbness i couldn't overcome and felt as though i could transfer about 90% the power i normally get on my roadie scum bike. That's good enough for me.

i'm just not a TT guy ... don't really like 'em and get bored so damn easy - especially in those flat, blahblah chrono races. those are stupid.

i need attacking and rotating in breaks and mind-games.
lots and lots of mind-games.

still ~ i'll keep at it.

just so i can make her do more of them.

The old Democrats are the new Republicans. The old Republicans are the new Democrats.

I come from a conservative Republican family. I understand them. I'm not too impressed with the party myself let alone the available choices for prez for the Republican party is pretty dismal. Preachers and Oilmen.

Damn politics... lots of ass puckering there going on. I hate the year coming up to the elections.. too many lame ass commercials in the way of the bike races.
Our media sucks at election coverage and pumps selected and edited stories and the American people miss out on the whole story. Rather than watching 2 minute blurps on Fox news or CNN and taking off to play PSP people need to read and watch the whole thing, dive in a research what facts and figures that are being thrown out by the media, research on their own.

Sadly I doubt it will happen for the masses. America will be busy watching the Tom Cruise and Katie divorce proceedings on TV.

Sooo funny that you rode off in front of me at madera, saddle sack waggling under your seat, beat me by 45 seconds and then complain about how you hate TTs.

TTs are all mental and that's what makes them interesting. Yeah, some of us will never TT with the champions, but there's always room for personal improvement. And equipment to geek out on (really, M, this is one instance where even with a disk and a trispoke, the Frayer is holding you back... were Madera handicapped by the "aeroness" of the bike I'm pretty sure you'd have won).

But the funny thing about your "I hate TTs" comment is that it was YOU pushing ME to do them that really made me learn to appreciate them.

that's just 'cuz i knew you'd be good at them.

I used to be a political junkie but
having worked at the legislature for 6 years or so has really dulled
my perspective. Personally, I don't
think anything will change until we
get a third party that can actually
compete with the two useless ones we have now. And I don't see that happening in my lifetime. Plus, factor in the lawyers and lobbyists
and you pretty much have a receipe
for a sewer.
To put it mildly, I HATE POLITICS!
And I really don't see much difference between Republican or Democrat anymore. No black & white...just a lovely shade of gray. Yes there are 1 or 2 exceptions but for the most part it's just a bunch of rhetoric.

On a happier note: I actually won a
TT last week. Yay for me.

I have a Ph.D. in political science, and I think that politics is the ruin of it all. Gets in the way of policy. Screw 'em all, and let the public servants run the show (although Reps whine that they already do).

And after teaching stats and research design in Kansas (Brownback land), I'm not surprised that people can't grasp the difference between faith and science. It is just as bad, though, when people use empiricism to argue against faith, cuz they too are falling into the same fallacy.

But who cares. I'm sweating up a steep hill 20 times this weekend.
