Jens Voigt is why i will watch the le'Tour this year. He's never been touched by drug innuendo, which means nothing of course .... but, it's more the way he rides ~ with utter abandon, complete commitment, visigoth frenzy.
i love watching him pound on the pedals, rolling those lanky, sinewed levers all over the bike. He is the antithesis of gazelle-smooth, he is pure spirit and pragmatist's technique.
i admire his ... panache.

Tomorrow is the 4th of Juu-Ly Crit over in Davis. I've never done the race. With temps up in the high 90s, should be a solid amount of suffering. Good preparation for Sunday's circuit race, i reckon.
Yup, i've registered for the Big Kitty Circuit race over in Sonoma. I've heard the klimbs are steep, so i'll be sure to throw on the 27t. BennyJ still holds a slim lead on the NRC circuit. I think he's gonna do a bit of fighting for it, but not to any ridiculous measures.
Still ... an NRC title.

Sorry -- typo in the last comment. From your favorite cycling site (CN): That year saw the Festina scandal unfold. Jaksche said that when he talked to Jens Voigt, the rider said that someone from his team suggested to bury all the stuff along the race route and pick it up after the Tour. While Voigt does not remember details of the conversation he agrees that "we talked about doping all the time back then," and thinks it's possible he joked about something like that.
after watching Voigt spout off in "Overcoming" ... i could see him letting loose many a sharp-toothed word.
i'll be spitting fire a bit if/when jens gets popped.

No offense, but I do know for a fact that Voigt has used EPO and other banned substances. I was in Europe and actually was in a room where it all went down, now this was in 1998, but who knows what he has done since then? Sure he rides hard, but so does everyone else, and who is really super clean out there? Maybe his director now? right?

well, i guess that's proof enough for me.
i, too, am of the thought that the vast majority of recent and current pro's in Europe have been doping.
but, what proof could i ever have other than what we've been given in newsires and expose interviews?
i do, however, think Jens Voigt is one of the most courageous bike riders i've ever seen. if it ever comes out that he doped, i'll hate him dutifully ... but, it'll be a hero mourned for.
