jiggle, jiggle, jiggle

French media have reported that American Floyd Landis has declined a U.S. Anti-Doping Agency request to release remaining urine samples from last summer's Tour de France for additional testing. VN

oh for fuk's sake ...

So, the Frenchy's are reporting that Landis had a handful of Tour B samples not tested for exogenous testosterone that a Carbon Isotope Ratio test can pick up (argue the validity of this science amongst yourselves, please). They report that the USADA requested permission from Landis to test all the other B samples from last year's Tour for exogenous testosterone. They report he refused.

Why? Well, as a defense attorney ... you do that automatically because ... well, you can. Why even take the chance of admitting any new evidence that might damn your standing in the legal proceeding.

And so, it was a sound decision for an attorney to make.

... unless ~ you're trying to win over public support.

And, that's what Team FLandis has been doing, full gas, for months ... win over public support. The decision to not release the untested B Samples for testing of exogenous testosterone reeks of ... guilt. It forces us all to gulp and sigh to ourselves, "oh, if only he would just let the bastards have them, because ... he has nothing to fear in them being tested ... right?"

ah well.

The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers.

BTW, that seems to be working out real well so far in Iraq.

Oh yeah....

Dear Floyd,

You big sissy -- get your pee pee tested and open it up to the world to see. You aren't racing the TdF this year anyway, and a comeback in 08... well that's a longshot at best. So let's have an airing of all your dirty laundry. And while you're at it, why don't you call on all of the old pee pee samples from EVERYONE to be tested in the same way. If this is going to be bad for you, it's probably going to be bad for a lot of other people too. Let's shed some light on the whole sport, even if it might be at your personal expense.

Sincerely,
That guy who was almost brought to tears by Stage 17 and now feels kicked in the nutz.

I don't know. Innocent or guilty, I wouldn't want anyone in any WADA lab testing anything. Did he have the option to allow a 3rd party lab perform the test?
Sounds like a risky mess.

I think we need a Geezer Tour de France. The pros just have me SO not interested anymore.
I don't know about you, but I race bikes because I like to race my bike.

Well, I have been sticking to the local race scene. I hope that holds up. I believe in my heart that 99.9% of us amateurs are clean.

Or American Football - they are clean, right?

anyone?

Last thing I would do is let those jokers test anymore pee. "A" samples were ok ... end of story.

Just more hype...

no, Nick.

A samples were not tested for exogenous testosterone.

only his stage 17 samples were tested for exogenous testosterone using the CIR test.

if he had his previous TDF B samples tested for exogenous testosterone ... it would be supremely damning.

now, one can argue against the validity of the CIR test ... but, in my opinion, that's usually an argument that parallels creation vs evolutionary theory.

is it hype? Is it "gamesmanship" by USADA as TBV suggests?

maybe.

but, FLandis has hyped this as much as anyone. He is the one who wants his case as public and open as he can get it.

If there is nothing to hide, allow the B samples to be tested for exogenous testosterone. Take the risk, in my opinion.

but ... it's not my nutsack on the line.

Man and now that I've thought about it for more than three minutes, I can see FL's point too... basically along the lines of:

I'm alleged to have committed this here specific doping allegation. It's pretty well ruined me financially, and may well ruin my career. F-NO I don't want to start arguing about anything else other than this test. Not my pee pee from prior races, not the security cam tapes from the local 7-11 in 1984, and not on my college roomate's super bong. Let's talk about this one descrete issue that you're ruining my life over. Sheesh, next thing you know you're going to ask when I stopped beating my wife and whether I've ever gotten away with speeding and who I voted for. F all that... just figure out whether I had exogenous-T in me on Stage 17. Period.

I mean really, it does put Floyd in the position of needing to prove the negative. And if he says "yes, test 'em," then why not test 2004's and 2003's and...

It's irrelevant. If Floyd wants to put the other tests in the public eye to support his cleanliness, I can see how that helps. But I don't think it's wrong to say no to putting a whole bunch more tests through the ringer.

I'm with Nick and Shawndoggy on this. Screw those French frogs. I hope FLandis (welcome to the last 8 months Nome!) gets off and I hope he never races on French soil again. Do the Giro and Vuelta instead. Ungrateful b*tards.

- Now... where are my Freedom Fries?

Point of clarification... it's not the frenchies who are askin' him to test the old stuff -- it's USADA. It's just that the French media reported it. xenophobia not warranted in this instance.

Nick said...

OV,

I know they weren't tested for exogenous testosterone.

Who to say the "B" samples wouldn't be tampered with to save face at the USADA etc.....

Can you tell I don't trust the bastards further than I can throw em.... :)

Olaf Vanderhoot said...

but that's just it, he's attacking the methodology of the testing lab.

if, in fact, exo-t was found in his A & B sample, something I've only read reported and not officially declared, it is damning beyond the pale. It means that he inserted synthetic t-juice into his body.

and let me tell you, i've seen first hand how that shit makes a rider faster.

it do.

Now, if Team FLandis can show chain of custody errors, even if minute and inconsequential to the actual testing, then the tests should be ruled invalid. Rightly so, in my opinion.

Thusly, a technicality well may free Floyd. Hollow victory? Yes, but look how much press Hamilton is getting right now in France. TONS for Tinkoff.

However, if he (Floyd) submits his peepee to another test run ... and the chain of custody is shown as proper and the testing regime is shown as valid ...

then, he either gets nailed or exonerated in the public eye.

BUT, the bottom line is that Team FLandis pulled a huge PR mistake, in my opinion, by not submitting to the testing (that is, if they have nothing to hide).

He has declared his ambitions to make his case as transparent as possible. Allowing these tests would be the ultimate in transparency, would it not?

unless, of course, he doped and the fear of a positive B sample for synthetic testosterone is guiding the decision.

rock and hard place.

i feel bad for the guy. i loved that Stage more than any single sporting event i've ever laid eyes to. It was epic, heroic ... legendary.

doped?

Olaf Vanderhoot said...

Honestly, I think that USADA thinks that they won't be able to argue against the chain of custody violations.

I think their is a strong chance that they are going to have to throw out FLandis' case.

Testing his other samples ... and finding the exo-T that is very likely there ... well, maybe that would be the 'saving face' you refer to.

But it still means the bastard doped. don't it?

Oh Floyd ... i sho'nuff hope you never doped.

shawndoggy said...

Well OV, now you can see how USADA could be gaming FL. Which is not to say that FL hasn't been doing the same thing. Hoisted in yer own petard and all that.

Neither is getting us close to "justice" or the "truth," though. Query: how many other athletes has USADA extended the "let's test your old stuff" offer to, and how many have said OK? USADA is more than just cycling after all.

Olaf Vanderhoot said...

getting closer to justice?

i'm not sure that was ever part of this equation.

money. on all sides.

Floyd is playing the legal game. And you make the point nando, why give them more ammo? But it doesn’t make me look any less guilty.....

Have to give big Jan credit though, he is the first to give the DNA sample for them blood bags......

We all know how cheaters work; you only cheated if you get caught. And after the age of 10, no one cheats just once and learned their lesson, the lessons have already been learned.....

I lie and cut corners at work every day. These guys are at work. We do it for fun and that is why we have the opinion we have on the subject. For the Tyler's and Floyd's they are getting suspended for cutting illegal corners in results production for income generation......

Fehrnando, you've got to be kidding! You expect him to let THE SAME LAB run more tests on any other samples? And by the way, if he DID test positive for the amount they say, it would've shown up in more than one test, did you know that? That stuff just doesn't disappear in a day. And I wonder what your "I've seen first hand how that shit makes a rider faster" comment means, especially after your ranting at a rider down south at the Mothballs Crit, AFTER the race was over. Maybe a little "steroid rage" in you Olaf? You seem a bit fast at times, like all year long. Wheaties, anybody?

Olaf Vanderhoot said...

sigh.

i'll say it again ... the re-tests would be for the exogenous testosterone (uh, that means testosterone that wasn't his own). The other samples were NOT tested for exo-T.

Please pay attention to class.

As for the Mothball rant, what the hell are you talking about? I got beat fair and square by riders who didn't have their heads up their ass (like i did). And I hate not representin' the NorCal bravado when down there.

And if your accusing me of taking steriods, well bully for you. you wouldn't be the first. or, i'm sure - the last.

but anytime you want a pee sample, just come up. i'll happily provide some for you.

I think the key is that it is WADA's responsibilty to prove that the samples used for testing and brought to public were not tainted, dirty, the wrongs ones or whatever. This is the basis of the Landis defense.

Like someone else said it would or could just add more questions.
Much of the arguments posted have been based on how a last minute dose of man seed could spike ones ability overnight.

I personally would like to see his other samples tested to help me as a fan of cycling have that proof positive so I can say a champion does not have to dope. However I am not in his shoes and not the one on the other side of the table or camera defending my career.

Olaf, Dude you missed your calling......your a young(kinda) skinny Perry Mason.

Flandis, I was your biggest fan and now I feel like a sex crime victim who was into it for a moment and ended up bound dirty and posted on the net. I'm still going with innocent until proven guilty but I'm not happy to have to pick in the first place.

Oh yeah and OV, dont stop doin what you do with the Bella's, How many Cat 1's in CA take ANY time to work with Cat 4 babes????????? Ummmmmmmm I'll say not more than 2 but I could be wrong.
