ok, so mike and i are here in santy barbie, trying to check results. amgen's site is jammed and we can't seem to get on. so i turn to mike, "Hey, OV will have the news up."

"No way, he's racing today. It won't be on there so soon," he replies.

Damn, you're good!

Benny J got his name on TV, but they didn't give him any camera time. Son's O Bitches! Don't they know he is the one that us 4,000 Nor Cal amateur racers are rooting for?

Exciting all American podium, and not the composition I thought it would be.

I just know we will see some great podium shots in tomorrows recap. I am just so glad we have coverage on TV.

They showed recaps of everyone Ben beat (including Horner looking a little dumplingish), but no Ben.

You said "dumplingish" that made me giggle :)

No coverage because Ben's start was at 1:01 this afternoon before they started the live coverage. He was the second guy out of the blocks, which means his time held for nearly the entire day. I'm so proud!

Truck driver??

How cool is it that a relative unknown does what J. Donald did?

That guy comes from a great family, worked his a-- off as a kid ski racing, has supportive parents that also work their butts off, and hopefully he will continue to shine!

BTW - his Dad's nickname is "Smilin' Jack," and he flew out from CO on his own dime to watch his son race, so if you see him at one of the stages, pat him on the back!

Go BJM...

I walked the course today as about the middle half of riders did the TT. I was sooo disappointed to not see BJM ride 2nd (fast or not, he's NorCal) 'cuz I got there that little bit late--darn it for stopping for lunch!

Lots of people out cheering (but 300,000? come on...). Guys like Hincapie and Dave Z came through on $10K+ bikes with TV bikes, team car, and double police escort, while the less-well-off cyclists had just their road bikes going truly solo through the streets. But the guys in 2nd and 3rd sure did show that you never can tell. (and maybe the wind helped)

from cyclingnews' live coverage today: "...but what about this Donald kid? He's 27, won a few criteriums, and drove a truck until this winter, and is currently leading one of the biggest stage races in professional cycling!"

I saw BJM after his ride yesterday, he looked happy. I gave him some Euro cx videos to keep him fired up during this week. BJM=man on a mission!
