harsh my high

Continuing on with the blabber about making hay with crossyness ...

A commentor on the NorCross blog talked about how she and her husband were bent at one of last year's races by a drunk dude heckling riders. They felt impinged upon in their good time with the kids by someone else's alcohol induced behavior.

well ~

ok, it's a complicated situation, isn't it? I mean, my first reaction is ... 'go the fuck back to church, lady ... and leave the NorCross to us hooligans.'

but, i don't have kids and if i did ... i'm sure i'd feel a little protective of them, blah, blah, blah. And, we do want to bring young people into the sport ... so, i suppose that means putting up with their parents.

Anyway, it comes to this ... who's bag of fun do we put the kybosh on? swiss family straightlacey or the big kids who know the ass-end of a bong when they see it?

Or, do we go through all the effort of segregating the spectrums ...

"drunk bastards over here, please ... thank you. And yes, Ms. Poppins and her brood can have this nice patch of grass to wax idyllic. merci!"

whatever, i just wanta get laid tonite.

This post makes me want to punch you multiple times.

And it would be your fault that I acted out so violently. Because you are wrong and I am right and the size of my fist proves it.

oy....

I'll take the drunk heckler in the bunny suit over that any day.

so we gonna get jiggy, or what?

you bring the bunny suit and I'll bring the booze.

Seems like bad parenting to a) care enough to tell someone what to do with their time, and b) not move in another direction expecting "a" to have some effect. My kids come to those races and it gets explained away as, "the man in the bunny suit is just a happy and thirsty guy. But don't get too close...and don't tell mom what you saw or heard..."

i hope they weren't talking about super drunk... That was all a costume i swear.

Where drunks congregate (frat parties, tailgaters, under the bridge), families, as a general rule, will self select out. Nothing wrong with that, unless it's the demographic you're trying to attract.

A couple of racers having a beer after their event, can hardly be compared to a tailgate or frat party.

And the orange jumpsuit/bunny crowd at Golden Gate park was isolated to one small patch of a very long course.

hey, please, no segregating the spectrums.

there are plenty of us racing moms (uh, me and jenny feix) who drink beer at cross races afterwards and let our kids watch us.

sometimes i even spit beer at my husband while he's racing.

bla bla bla bla....maybe we should have a "family" day...hell nobody would ever take their kids to a baseball game (America's pastime) if a drunk or two was such a big deal...

and please no more mention of the bunny suit...now all I can imagine is Olaf with a big white rabbit head on going "gigady gigady gigady gigady..."

hmm, when I saw 9 comments on a post this new, i assumed it was in response to the 'wantin to get laid' announcement....

aside from the SF race last year, I haven't seen anything even approaching the crap that goes on at other public sports events.

The course is long and has two sides. Everyone can find their space if they need to.

And I can't stand Mary Poppins.

Bunny suit? He needs his Dark Helmet to protect him from Princess Bella from whacking him over the head with the booze bottle.

Lothar Glerbny said...

Oh there is going to be some whacking!

YA that kind of erked me too.

Jezz, I have been to "ball" games, whatever type... and the drunken mayhem is 20 times worse than any cross race I've been to. I'd like to see the guy in question try to punch out someone from the Raider Nation cuz they were heckling...

Tough guy.....

Give me a break!

Not that I saw what happened, but I think there is a happy medium in there somewhere. I am all for a good buzz, but if the buzz becomes drunken stupidity and down right offensive, that maybe a good place to draw the line. (not sure this was the case, but you get the point)

Me: I don't like to drink alot, I tend to get ornery when I drink"
Friend's response: "Wait, what do you mean when you drink?"

I think the point is to have fun without it being at other peoples expense. It doesn't really take a lot of effort to be considerate of others, just an intention.

yup, sort of like - "your rights extend to the end of your fist" (both the literal and metaphorical)

Sorry if I gave the impression that I think that people having a beer or two are drunks... I took "ass end of a bong" to mean that the partay was going a bit beyond the beer-or-two stage. Kids around adults consuming a couple of beers = OK in my book.
