Kern(al) done popped
well, Kern County is over with ... and it feels as though I raced the damn thing myself. Tired, sleep-deprived, and dehydrated.
... and satisfied.
There was a very impressive breakaway in the p1/2 that finished up the race today; with a Bicycle John's rider taking the sprint. In the 3's, a MetroMafia chicka won it in a field sprint with our own lil' Ryan Bella nabbing a fine 3rd. The 4's was a clean sweep from some soCal SimpleGreen rider. She looks to be in her late 30's or early 40's and is NOT a transplant from another sport. It turns out she got all of her strength from child birth n' rearing. Makes me think about popping one or two of them puppies out myself.
oh ... oops.
In the 35+ it was a very good battle between the Firestone women and our Velo Bellas. Firestone grabbed today's stage with BeniShine winning the overall and Erika Donald taking 3rd. Yay! I have the 45 and 55 results written down and will try and scramble those out later.
Well, here's another bit of photocrappery to end a weekend of postages from the jocksupporters:

These are two of my favorite riders. Erika and Linda each have soooo much class on and off the bike. They are supportive, welcoming, and damn smooth pedalers. Just a pleasure to watch such solid riders.
The women lined up to start the final stage with light clouds and lower temperatures. It was a very nice way to end a brutally difficult stage race. To finish any one of these stages is an accomplishment ... to finish the whole thing is just burly.
This crazy girl has done it 10 times straight ... every single year this epic race has been run. She's got an award named after her for it.
... that's boss ...
... that's boss ...
You see some weird shit in the feedzone.
... fun awards ceremony. Bob is a pretty damn cool cat, yo.
... Don't worry benny ~ we were representin' ...

Hey, yer pretty good at the full-on reportage! Makes me wanna do a stage race... with women!
I almost bought the twelver of coors light--then I saw that the SN was cheaper...
go to bed!
you worked too hard this weekend
and shouldn't be up late blogging!
oh, and thanks
That was pretty cool of you and Pab to go down with the ladies and support them. The way things are going around here, I may be down there next year doing the same.
stage racin' with women rocks.
PAB was the bell of the ball with his beer and flair patrol.
seeing him run around with glitter before the final stage was ... hilarious.
xbunny went on a solo break on the final day, too. ugh, that's burrrlleeeey.
that is a ridiculously hard stage race, man. i wanna do it, but there's no room for boys in that thing.
You boys out there in the heat just rocked! Thanks so much for being out there all weekend keeping everyone fed, wet, and somewhat sane out there in the boonies. Really kept the spirit up.
they were cold, thanks to PAB's fast hands and Tyler's big chest.
... uh...
and good riding Ellis!
oh, and Simple Green (Ruth Clemence) isn't new to the sport (well maybe she is to road). I finally peeped out her name and I remember her from back in the day of mtb racing. She kicked everyone's ass in the expert class way back when I was racing regularly down south...
She's gotta be in her late 40s by now.
Ruth, Monica, Liz, Bev, all kicking ass over the youngins.
ah sooo.
very interesting.
I love all the "master" women (for me it's used in the Jedi sense of the word) who come out and school the newbies like me. So tough and such an inspiration to know that they keep going and be so badass for that long. It must have been Liz who came flying past me on the hillclimb with her wheels making that freight train noise. Awesome.
i knew she had done some other sport despite reports otherwise
having babies doesn't make your arms cut like hers and it makes your butt bigger, not non-existent like hers
she's been doing some serious working out for some time
and is a stud
