the pale light of mediocrity

uh ... i have no idea where that title is headed.

Random thoughts floating about Hernando's noggin today:

  1. i miss my 9spd 12-27t cassette
  2. are you a total nerd-boy if you like to calculate speed based on cadence and gear ratio?
  3. campy is sexy ... but shimano sprints better [fuck]
  4. 95% of men shouldn't begin to think they can fit a woman on a bicycle
  5. hill climbing is very, very much a pain in my ass
  6. descending is magic
  7. headwinds are essential nutrients
  8. tailwinds are desserts [and just as essential]
  9. the State of the Union address ... christ.
  10. time management ... i'm sucking at it lately.

dag!

you are a total nerd-boy
period

and i am not digging the campy sprinting
ok, i wouldn't go back to shimano because i only sprint occasionally and i can't hold onto my bike otherwise but the hold your thumb on the lever idea ain't working for me.....i might just need more practice (as that seems to be the answer for everything for me) but i keep trying and i don't feel secure enough to really sprint with my thumb there....so far i am having better luck swinging my thumb up for a brief shift...not that that is great either....

skipped the SoU address--life is stressful enough without asking for a dose of pain

phooey on headwinds

I have always thought that Campy was better for sprinting. Instead of having to to "click, click, click, click" to drop into the 12T it's just one swipe of the thumb & let the 1585W do the rest! I would like to try the new SRAM system though - you just hold the inner lever to the drops of the bar while you are sprinting & twist the wrist to get a shift. Nifty, eh?

Besides, my Record Ergo lever died last week - only $20 parts & labor for a re-build. I had my bike back to me later that afternoon. Rebuildability is cool.

I feel like I'm cheating when I'm using the Shimano stuff nowadays. I grew up with nothing but Campy....but now, I've got Shimano everywhere. Except one of my mountain bikes - it's Super Record all the way. Makes me wonder why Campy even bothered trying to make mountain bike components....the Super Record has been through hell and held up great.

You guys change gears while you sprint? if you're in a 53x15 (93,5" gear) at 90 rpm you're doing 25 mph, crank it up to 145 rpm in a 53X15, and you're up to 40 mph!

145--PABs legs would fly off

How 'bout 145 in a 14?? Or better yet, a 13! Yeah, I think it's time to go to bed too.

Dan Cleary said...

Skibby's never seen 145rpm on a 53x15 and barely 90rpms for that matter (maybe on a descent).

Its all theory to him;)

The Red Lantern has never seen Skibby on the track, that's because the Red Lantern's pink skirt would get caught in that big chain ring! ;)
