'splain = it's hard work being this dorky

"Hi, I'm Jill. I'll be your cruise director"

bags of laundry ready for wash,
a bag and a half of fixins waiting at the grocery -

{
just the mundane of life, piled up little necessities
}

but all i can do
is lay on the floor
and suffer the stiffening consequences of
a twilight crucifixion.

{
the dodging of darkness amongst the gas guzzlers went a bit too
anaerobic. stretching was enjoyed
}

- in battalions -

some days it be sorrows,
others, pure and meaning smile.

{
'battalions' brings us the sad lament in Hamlet - 'when sorrows come,
they come not single spies, But in battalions'

i'm not a huge fan
of the specific metaphor ... i would have gone with something arrow related ...
you know - not arrows singly, but hateful barrages. ...
well, something like that.

... anyway ~ the point is, some days
bring you sorrow, and others bring you joy.

sorrows.
pure
smiles.
smiles that mean something.
}

but when They come,
i embrace each and every one -

{
and so, when they come, sorrow or smile, it is accepted.
}

for our same bard,
being something wise
in the matters of men and women,

{
shakespeare returns as our guide,
and there is wisdom there, n'est
pas?
}

said a thing, or two,
of loves lost,
and, worse, never been.

{
of course, here we have a supple little reference ... yes, there is
Tennyson hinting in our ears, "tis better to have loved and lost than never to
have loved at all."

but, we return to Shakespeare for the actual
tasting ... and we think of the glories, the frights, the ravings of love,
jealousy, pain, horror, loathing, honor - the human world painted with
words.

... all describing
that living
can
be rich, full, surprising.

now.
}

oh...i suppose i'll have to go watch 'Shakespeare in Love' again.

sigh.
