We Safeway-ites get some support from Powerbar.

But, TommyS scored me a bunch of these Snickers Marathon bars in my Pilarcitos prize baggie. They taste like a combination of a regular Snickers bar and a TigerMilk bar. Yummy.

It's a serious hit of chocolate ... but, also has all these minerals and vitamins n' stuff. So, I can tell myself i'm not eating a Snickers bar ... i'm training on Marathons.

yeah ... that's what i tell myself.

Unfortunately, Snickers is a huge megacorp - more interested in profit than the ADD kids juiced up on their candies. More interested in profit than producing a product in an environmentally sound manner. And, even though TommyS was so cool as to score me a bunch of freebies as prizes for crashing all over his races - i just can't bring myself to eat them. Well, i did eat a couple (just for the scientific interest, of course).

No, I've got to stay true and blue to the type of company that Powerbar is. Powerbar and Clif have been so supportive of athletics ... it's an easy choice to shitcan these Snicker-thingies.

well, maybe just one more.

Not to blow your megacorp theory... but Powerbar has been owned by Nestle for the past 6yrs. And if Snickers is the megacorp, Nestle is the pimp of megacorp. Seriously, Nestle (Swiss-based) is massive globally. Doh!

Sorry to butt in here...can't help myself.

About ten or twelve years ago i came to the realization that by trying to always be a "conciensous consumer", I was driving myself FUCKING CRAZY. Who can keep track of who owns what in this world? Nestle owns Powerbar?! I was not informed!

So while i still try to avoid doing business with the evil economic powers-that-be in this world, I have also relaxed a bit.

To stick with the Powerbar case study, yeah, they may be owned by some awful globe-destroying megacorp, but on the more local level there are some good people making their living running the day to day operations. Those people give support to us (cyclists), and probably deserve our support in return.

So keep eating Powerbars, and enjoy your Snickerthingies. You crashed-er-raced hard for those things and you deserve to enjoy em!

Or at least to eat them sans guilt-trip.

So, to summarize, no, you can't win...
