mini post

Been off the interwebs a bit lately, but there are some things needing to be updated.

Track Natz -

big story is the Brain Peterson and Steve Puh-leaze pulling on another championship jersey with their Madison win. Right on. 2 crowns for the Brain and 1 for Steve after being so close the rest of the week. very cool.

Also heard that the F-Train Larry Nolan had a spill in a training run for the pursuit, dislocated his shoulder, stuck around and took the start for his team so they had a chance to make a run for it. what a frickin' animal.

Saturday Track Session -

had a blast with a few dozen other yayhoos out at the Beginner session. Here's a bunch of pic's of the silliness.

looking forward to winning some prizes tomorrow at the Giro.

US Pro on VsNews

it's a by-line to the Vuelta stage 2 sprint on the Velonews splash page .

ok.

Levi wins the jersey.

sigh ... kinda wish it woulda been a continental young guy. but, ah well.

Olaf
wake up

The guy who just won the Santa Cruz cal cup race was next best, with Neil Shirley taking the 3rd place finish in the brutal race for the US national championship. Good job to Neil, he looked super fast going up the hill in santa cruz and I had a feeling he was going to pull something off in the race against the Tour riders for the US national championship. I told Neil to be confident next week at the nationals after he won santa cruz, and I told him he might just end up on the podium if he feels good. Going against a tour podium finisher, california tour champ, rider like Levi and then Hincapie, who is one of the best one day riders in the world is no easy task.

Great ride for Shirley who is a Nor Cal boy deep down.

If it was BJM who popped a 3rd in the race you would have gone crazy with the result, it would have been non stop hype for you if this happened, instead you left Shirley's ride for nothing.

Oh yeah, another Tour head was 4th in Rodriguez.

Road race
1. Levi Leipheimer, Discovery Channel, 177km in 4:22:19
2. George Hincapie, Discovery Channel, at 1:11
3. Neil Shirley, Jittery Joe's, at 1:14
4. Freddie Rodriguez, Predictor-Lotto, at 1:18
5. Danny Pate, Slipstream-Chipotle, at 1:29
6. Shawn Milne, Health Net-Maxxis, at 1:56
7. Kirk O'Bee, Health Net-Maxxis, at 2:00
8. Bobby Julich, CSC, same time
9. Christopher Jones, Nerac, s.t.
10. Burke Swindlehurst, Toyota United, at 2:04

While the other boys used the Tour de France to get ready for this race, Shirley used the Santa Cruz cal cup race to fire up his legs and challenge the Pro Tour riders.

Me thinky this ride by Shirley was one of the best rides of the entire season,

and you need to do a entire post on Neil to give him his props.

You really let me down saying that you wished a "continental young guy would have won"

well going against those guys, 2 Disco boys who were 1-2 last year, Shirley did just that! 3rd among the group he was with was basically a win, or he could have been a couple minutes back like BJM.

Ok so get some photos together and get all your hype and drama mixed in, and lets hear a post about Neil Shirley, Santa Cruz cal cup champ one weekend, 3rd in the USPRO national the next.

or if your too lazy, I can do the posts for you.

Also Neil told me after todays race that he might be signing a contract with a Euro team in the next few weeks.

yeah, we talked about it here at the house for awhile, the ride by Neil.

good swing.

and the conti pro comment was about Neil. but, i can't please all. so, thanks for doing the heavy lifting now. i guess i'm free to write about a falling leaf or the sweetness of a friendly dinner party.

OV you are missing some good times at the track. Went again today with Velojuice jr. A bunch of 10-15 year olds doing the O sprints and Italian pursuit is pretty sweet. That is true grass roots, especially when most of them are in sneakers! Beats Livermore CX yesterday in 103 degrees. Hope you are healing well.

Everybody falls sometime

If the Tours prove anything its that even professionals make really really really dumb mistakes.

We just love to copy our heroes

Velo Bella said...

yes, ditto what Soni said. Thanks for all of the encouragement and cheers and funny pictures. I know we all had a good time, and who knows, we may have a few more track converts.

And that goes to Jeff and Tyler too.

I had so much fun watching and cheering!

That tazmanian pursuit was kick ass to watch, can't wait to try it!

Ya, thanks for the photos, advice and cheering!!! What a great start to a Marathon cycling weekend!

We're looking forward to our next visit to the track. Maybe we'll even have our own bikes by then.

they are so sexy

and their opinions are always right

they know everything and they know they know everything

Hey anonymous, you clearly have a thing for Neil Shirley. Do you have his picture taped to your bedroom ceiling? I suggest you lay off the Jittery Joe's and stick to something lighter, like say, a decaf chai latte. Too much caffeine turns you into a hater.
