glass ceilings

i suppose there's an Ibsen play to bring into the discussion ...

- - -

oh, i dunno. Over here on the left coast we have a growing race scene for women. But, it takes time and investment for such things to really hit full fruition. Is it worth it? Is there a market for women's professional cycling in the US and abroad? I don't know. I hope so.

What i can say is that these sprint finishes the past few weeks, with hardcore NRC teams kicking each other in the teeth, has been a helluva good time to watch and cheer on. It's been good, tough racing. But, it still needs to grow. It still needs support.

Do i think women's racing is as full of bitchy, me-me dolls as the men's side? ... yes.

Do i think there are just as many mature, honorable, righteous women pulling out the stops and racing their balls off as on the men's side. ... hell yes.

I understand that promoters need to cover costs and ... gasp ... sometimes turn a profit in American cycling. Hell yes to that, too. And, I know that decisions have to be made and not all in the world can be accomodated in this land of luxury and greedy needings.

... sigh.

Guess i'll have to vote with my dollars.
shyte, hope there's still time to get some endurance in for Gila. Maybe i should downgrade.

Word.

Gila, no M35+ lame to say the least.

If I was a 1 I would well.......get smoked but I'm working on not doing cat 2 only events any more, they suck ass like a 45+ 3,4,5 race.

voting with dollars can make a difference

unfortunately, when the women boycott and we have smaller fields it can make it easier to justify eliminating us

and i don't think we can realistically expect enough support to make a big dent in the men's 4/5 fields

but i really don't need to end up with 50 races this year either so it may be good that i'm forced to sit one or two out...

there you go shoin off again.

at first i thought you werre racing for the Bail Bonds team. that might be even better than cutters...well close anyway.

XBun--50? You'll prolly end up with 60...

You're a great mouthpiece for these things. Thanks for the well thought, balanced support.

olaf: i want to do the math on this one (surprise, surprise).

what % of a masters mens field do you think races twice in a day? what % does 3? If you think about the 'lost' profit by making it super cheap to do 2 or 3 races, compared to a women's race where all 37 3/4s paid full price, i'm not sure it comes out all that different.

i'm sorry, but to elimanate the W4s all together and force the W3s to race with the P/1/2s at a primere series race with a big ass hill is just plain stupid.

if cherry pie is any indication, all 3s will be pulled after 20min. anyway. what a waste.

Oh hell yes did I hear a Gila! Suppose I should have some sort of supportive comment about Cat's Hill drama and such but all I can think of is road trip to Gila with Hernando and a hijacked Sabine. Life just gets better all the time!

Hmmmm. I'm thinking an All-Women's race. I mean, heck, they have an All-Women's Century, don't they? You figure, Cat.4s, 3s, 2s, 1s/Pros...then Masters too...then combined 4/3, 2/3 and whatever creation comes up. Geezo, we could have women racing 3+ races in a day if it was crit. Or imagine the road race possibilities. The only problem is, what date to have it?? Yeah, I know - May 5th.

May 5th Cross race???
