why i'm going to exploit them ...

Beth is a newbie to the cycling world. Outside of the fact that she cracks me up with her interweb scribblings, I have grown to really admire how she approaches the bike.

She and her partner in crime, the mysterious michiko, show a passion for pedaling that infects all around them. You can feel in your belly the fun they have on the bike. They ride climbs with mad-cackling grins, they race wild with love of competition but not valuing their race with any results, they ... dive right in and smile whether they whoop, or get whooped.

they get it.
-

What i admire about these two is their ability to throw themselves headfirst into the flames. Yeah, they're both pretty good natural athletes ... Michiko is a bit of a grinder-girl on the climbs, powering away with tenacity that can't often be taught. And Beth is a strong girl, but more impressive to me is that she is one of the few riders I've come across lately that has an innate sense of racing ... a natural mind for figuring out tactics and really understanding the sport.

So yeah, they're solid athletes. However, what makes them such an inspiration to me is that if you saw them at the start line of ANY race ... you'd think, "oh - ok, those are the newbies."

with their old-school steel is real bikes, their pinned on "geritol" sponsors, their irreverent giggling ... you'd think, these guys aren't taking this seriously.

and then they race their guts out.

and race well.

Beth and Michiko are the every woman's bike racers. They show us that all of us ~ ALL OF US ~ can have fun out there, race with fire, and exceed expectations ... especially our own.

i love that kind of shit.

Beth impressed me early this year after a couple of weekends of adversity in the Early Birds. She came right back and stuck with it in impressive style.

Yes, they're single, tons of fun, and have fabulous quads.

I love that they don't want to "take racing seriously", but yet both race really, really well!

Beth sets a HUGE example for how to get started at the track. She jumped in with uncommon "git-'er-done!" attitude and now has 15+ track events under her hat including AVC, and medals from States. Folks on the cusp of riding the track...are you ready to Git-'er-Done! Great gals those two. Great post, Olaf!

Still trying to get back on Beth's good side after pointing out the panty post to everyone, huh?

(agreed though: maximum respect to these ladies)

beth is the bee's knees! we rendezvoused in utah and she taught me how to steal a wheel, using sugar in the raw, ketchup packets, and a solitary jalapeno popper to play the roles of the three hypothetical bikers involved. i knew her from Our Old College Days (cue sepia over tones), but catching up with her via blogs has helped inspire and encourage me to stop messing around and start racing - and to always remember to have fun on my bike.

(she sent me to the link to this post, but she didn't do it so that i would write such compliments. that's all my doing)
