yes ~ i'm quite aware, thank you

Down in SF, by the Ferry, there is this gynormous statue of Gandhi ... striding strongly, silently across the plaza of the wharf icon's main building. He is a giant ... dropped by the hand of a god in the midst of a tourist mecca

for a plump, waddling folk who wipe away saccharine crumbs from a jabberingly grinning mouth before swiping a card to bring home shiny, oh so special things made in Malaysia, Bangladesh, Vietnam.

. . .

i believe i will go mad.

. . .

This evening i caught myself worrying about the lack of training from the work schedule and the upcoming cross races.

stupid fucking idiot.

. . .

i love my new kitty. just love her ... except when she attacks my feet, arms, hands, hair.

. . .

our roomate is cool.

. . .

bob dylan did an ipod commercial.

sigh.

i never did understand that sum'bitch.

. . .

i love being a gey returd.

. . .

Currently, 42% of college graduates are men. By 2010 (uh ... that's 4 years from now?) it's supposed to be about 2 out of 5. i'll let you do the alge-rithmatic.

so, about 30 years from now in aMerica we will have a significant percentage of people in positions of power and influence who ... don't have a penis.

thank the god that stamped Gandhi in our plaza of payment.

um....even without a college degree, men still earn more than women. The fact that there are more women college grads just shows that we're desparate to get equal treatment, not that we're in positions of power or influence.

Except me, of course. Then again, I dropped out of the real world to work at a bike shop on food stamp wages (with an MBA).

I keep saying I was born in the wrong generation. The 50's saw the man at the "office", mom in the home, dinner on the table, and no day care for the kiddie winks. Somewhere in the near future, women will earn so damn much, (and I guess that's the goal) that the men can stay home, put dinner on the table, and take care of the kiddie winks. Of course, there will still be day care as we will need to stash the wee ones somewhere when we ramp up our training. Ahh the bliss it will be.

OR have a penis but no education.

synonymous?

Not to be depressing, but it seems that currently minority groups (i.e. the white, the uber-rich, the 100% "conservative") that hold the power; I'm not sure that education has that much to do with it anymore -- it's what clubs you join.

That's not a reason to give up the fight, though, just a reminder that we can't get complacent and still effect change.

Stickin' it to the man is good and all that and I'm glad that there are people out there doin' it. But I really don't see traditional gender roles shifting much despite the growing college grad gap. Why? Well, kids. We like to have 'em, and (flame retardant suit zipped and ready), mommy is built to handle the little ones much better than daddy. Sure, daddy can throw a bottle of formula in the microwave, but Mommy's got 'em stock. Step off of the career track a couple of times for a few kids, and Daddy's likely to have climbed a little highter on the ladder just owing to his longevity. When the decision needs to be made about who takes a flexible job to help the kids through the school years... well, it's probably going to be mom again.

By no means defending or encouraging that outcome, just givin' my observations as a daddy in the trenches. Like Johnny S... I'd love to be a stay at home dad. Maybe my son will get the chance...

Do we honestly think we are not already in this position????

Honestly?

not having power, or penises?

Anonymous said...

Ahhhhhhh'

Must clarify

In my opinion the majority of those in power at this time already are without kickstands.

As for Figureheads of power that may not hold true, But the real decision making by men of the world (ok the USA) still comes down to women.

Or maybe thats just a reflection of my life.

Either way I'm glad George W. and Co. are not REALLY making the decisions that effect me, Al gore and camp also. Either one of those dorks couldn't do the job without a good women pulling the strings.

Ghandi had a penis.

As a side note. I heard these statistics reported in an NPR (I think) report where they discussed the social implications. Turns out most women don't want to partner with people who are less educated than themselves.

I just want to say "Gandhi" is a fantastic mantra.

There are few people who deserve to actually be placed on a pedestal, tho many who believe they should be. Gandhi is one of them.

I'm off to find a photo of that statue now.

Johnny GoFast said...

Thank (Deity of your choice) my wife aint like most women in the need to partner with the educated. I are fortunate.

Eclectchick said...

Ack - I just looked at my comment - and realized it could be taken wrong!

One of the worthy pedestal-ees I refer to is his Gandhiness.

Somewhere in the near future

Sheete, somewhere in Redwood City...hee hee hee...and I don't even have kids, well, just four legged ones!

What does that make me? A stay at home husband? A kept man?

I guess, in reality, I do have a job. But I only go when I want and only do the things there I like to do. Of course that is sadly coming to an end and I will have to rejoin the frustrated workforce whose training is being severely limited by the man. It's been a great 12 months...maybe I can stretch it through the holidays!

Oh, I do the shopping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, yardwork...it's a tough job taking care of the house!
